Brits’ homes in France to become much more expensive1 August 2012The French president François Hollande recently announced a raft of tax changes to help plug his country’s huge budget deficit. The subject of some of these increases is the easy and domestically-popular targets of foreign-owned second homes in France. There are believed to be up to 200,000 Brits with properties in France who will now face a significantly-increased tax burden. The proposal is to raise income tax on rents from 20% to 35.5% with the capital gains tax on such properties increasing from 19% to 34.5%. |
